Who Is Eligible?

Who Is Eligible?

Non-Medicare Plans (closed to new enrollment)

The only individuals eligible for our non-Medicare plans (PPO plans) are those who were enrolled in WSHIP prior to December 31, 2013 and individuals residing in a Washington State county where an individual plan (other than a catastrophic plan) is not offered during defined open enrollment or special enrollment periods. Individual plans are currently available in all counties, therefore, these plans remain closed to new enrollment.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You are a resident of Washington State;
  • You were enrolled in WSHIP prior to December 31, 2013; and
  • You are not eligible for Medicare or Medicaid.

Medicare Plans (open to new enrollment)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You are a resident of Washington State;
  • You are enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B;
  • You were rejected for coverage by a health carrier, offered substantially reduced coverage on a Medicare supplemental insurance policy, or you do not have comprehensive Medicare supplemental coverage available to you; and
  • You do not have access to a reasonable choice of Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C).

See below for a list of counties that have been determined to have a reasonable choice of Medicare Advantage (MA) Plans. If you live in one of these counties you are not eligible for WSHIP unless your health care provider is not included as a member of at least one of the HMO or PPO benefit plans available to you.
